HAVE A BLESSED EASTER! So glorious is the event we celebrate today that it is liturgically celebrated for eight consecutive days (an octave) and the Easter season of seven weeks is the longest of the four special seasons in the Church year. St. Augustine compared the Lenten season to our time on earth and the Easter season to the eternity of heaven. It is fitting then that our Lenten penances give way for awhile to savoring some of the foretastes of heaven that God gives us in the beauty of spring, fine foods and joyful get-togethers. Mom and I wish all of you a Happy Easter and we thank you for your wonderful Easter kindnesses. For myself and on behalf of the entire parish, I also wish to thank our choir, church decorators, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, servers and so many others who gave of their time and talent in extra measure to enhance our Lenten, Holy Week and Easter liturgies.
PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION
- On behalf of St. Joseph’s School of Religion 5th and 6th grade class along with the Youth Ministry, a sincere THANK YOU for your support of our Easter Project. Our total sales and donations came to $1,526.83 plus a $50.00 donation for Malawai. We realized a profit of $499.07 on candy sales of $1,425.90. The Easter Bunny and lotion gifts were completely paid for by donations. Our total profit was $510.00 after expenses. Distribution of profits: $200.00 was given to the St. Joseph Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society; The Trinitis House in Malawai received $310.00 plus a personal donation of $50.00 for a total of $360.00. On Palm Sunday, the residents of Scottdale Manor Rehabilitation Center were visited children from our School of Religion and their teacher. The visits were very much appreciated by the residents. Thank you and God bless you for making our Easter project successful! Also, thank you to the adult parishioners who visited the sick and helped deliver Easter Bunnies.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION now returns to Tuesdays. The sign-up sheets now in the church foyer have been modified to encourage more than one person to sign up for each time slot. This is intended to increase the number of adorers and also to help to insure coverage if one person is unexpectedly unable to fulfill his or her commitment. In the near future, a second clipboard for Eucharistic Adoration will be placed in the foyer to explore the possibility of extending our Tuesday adoration through the night until the Wednesday 8 am Mass. This would begin June 28th if the extended times can be filled on an enduring basis. During the times from 7 pm until 7 am, two adorers would be required plus a back-up substitute- as- needed. Those who sign up would be committing to their time slot each week for an indefinite period i.e., until they no longer wish to continue or are unable to do so. Those who sign up as substitutes would be committing only to their time slots to fill in when a regular adorer is not able to be present.
