PRAYERFUL CONGRATULATIONS & BEST WISHES to Shawn M. Peden and Nikki M. Luczki, who were united in the Sacrament of Matrimony here on Saturday, June 25th. May their marriage covenant be fruitful and bring them to the eternal wedding celebration.
NIGHTTIME EUCHARISTIC ADORATION got underway here at St. Joseph Church last week, June 28th-29th. Twenty-one adorers participated, plus others who were present for the Divine Mercy Devotions. We are grateful beyond words to the participants and we thank God for this special parish blessing. Eucharistic adoration will continue each week following the 11:30 am Mass on Tuesday until the 8 am Mass on Wednesday for as long as we have enough adorers. Please consider signing up as a substitute on the sheet in the back of the church. You may do so as an at-large adorer or indicate a time for which you would be willing to fill-in. I ask all parishioners to join me in praying for our adorers. (Fr. John)
PARISH FESTIVAL UPDATE
VOLUNTEERS Next weekend, July 9-10, we celebrate our 37th Annual Parish Festival. We hope it is an event for which St. Joseph - Everson can be proud, just as we’ve been able to do in past years. This year, there is a chance, however, that it could be embarrassing – mainly due to lack of volunteers. Even with cutting, streamlining and doubling up, it still takes at least 50 volunteers to do everything that has to be done. This includes manning the booths, working in the 3 kitchens and bar, and overseeing and selling tickets and tips. Then there is the entertainment, publicity, office, set-up and nightly clean-up that isn’t even included in that 50. As of last weekend, we have a total of 8 parishioners who have volunteered for our parish’s one and only yearly general fundraising event. We’ve heard everything from, “I’m on vacation” (same thing we heard last year when our festival was in August), to “Let someone else do it” to just plain “NO!” This is frustrating, alarming and a sad commentary on just how much many of our parishioners care about St. Joseph’s. Please prove us wrong. Please show that there are parishioners who care enough to commit to an evening or a weekend or even a few hours to help their parish. This year a few booths may not be open, or there may not be Bingo. Next year, there very well could not be a St. Joseph Summer Festival due to lack of volunteers. Financially, we need this festival. Sad to think what could happen to our parish because many were “too busy” to help.
● Wants & Needs We still need gift baskets, toys, raffle prizes, major ticket items in addition to pop, water, Wheelbarrow of Cheer “fillers,” and food items for the kitchen. Please check the Giving Tree in the main vestibule.
● Baked Goodies and Turkeys Don’t forget items for our Bakery Wheel and turkeys for the Sunday Turkey Dinner. We need 22 roasted turkeys; the sign-up sheet shows we don’t have anywhere near that.
● Set-Up We’ll begin setting up for our Festival on Tuesday, July 5th, at 9:00 am. This will be continuing process throughout the week, with tents arriving Wednesday evening and Thursday. Electricity will be run on Wednesday and Thursday. Whatever prize, toy or game items we receive will be sorted and categorized Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 pm.
● Help is needed this Thursday (7th) at 8:00 am to make noodles and this Friday (8th) at 8:00 am to prepare cabbage.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! - 2011 Parish Festival Committee -
