DIOCESAN LENTEN APPEAL GOAL REACHED! To date, 166 of our 355 families (47%) have pledged/paid $20,407, which is $262 over our goal of $20,145. THANK YOU! Since we have also surpassed our Diocesan target of $15,145, St. Joseph’s is currently receiving 100% of every dollar contributed to the DLA (assessment-free) for our parish needs. There is still time to take advantage of this window of opportunity when the value to our parish of each DLA donation is nearly 33% higher than regular offertory gifts. This window closes June 30th, the official end of the 2011 Diocesan Lenten Appeal. DLA envelopes remain in the church pews and church entrances. Every gift is greatly appreciated.
SECOND COLLECTION, JUNE 25-26, 2011 Next weekend, the annual Peter’s Pence Collection will be taken in support of the charitable works of the Holy Father. The proceeds from this collection fund emergency relief assistance to those throughout the world who suffer from war, oppression, and natural disasters. The Peter’s Pence Collection gives us the opportunity to extend a sign of peace to the Body of Christ around the world. Our gifts to this annual collection help the Holy Father to support victims of disaster, war, and oppression and others most in need of assistance. Pope Benedict used the Peter’s Pence Collection to strengthen dioceses, religious orders, and struggling communities of faith when they need it most. Please be as generous as possible.
MEMORIAL & OTHER DONATIONS: $800.00 Diocesan Lenten Appeal donation from the St. Joseph Society; $50.00 donation toward the painting of the church In Memory of Sister M. Dominic, C.H.G. from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edwards; $25.00 Diocesan Lenten Appeal donation In Memory of Elizabeth Banaszak from Dennis and Diane Figg; and $15.00 donation In Memory of Anthony L. Nowicki from Irene Nowicki Bradley. We are grateful.
PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION DIRECTOR, Mrs. Patricia Borek, has announced her intention to not continue in this position for the 2011-12 religious education year. Mrs. Borek has most capably and very generously served in this capacity as a volunteer for nearly 20 years and has graciously offered to continue serving as a catechist. Pat, may the Lord reward you for the invaluable contribution you have made (thus far) to life of St. Joseph Parish and to the lives of so many of our young people over the years! Qualified persons who may in interested in serving as Director of Catechesis should contact Fr. John.
PARISH FESTIVAL NEWS
Our 37th Annual Parish Festival is THREE WEEKS away, July 9-10, 2011! Please be generous with your donations and your time. Since this is our parish, one or two people should not have to be calling days before, begging fellow parishioners for needed items or to help work at the festival. It would be so much easier and much less frustrating if this was the year everyone pitched in.
● Sign-Up Sheets: Booth sign-up sheets are posted in the vestibules. Kitchen help and turkey sheets will be posted soon. If you’ve never volunteered, this should be the year!
● Giving Tree: Located in the main vestibule. Please pick an item or two or three and then bring them to the school hall. For planning purposes, the sooner the better.
● Raffle/Tip Items: Things like bicycles, a TV, electronic gadgets, gas grill, a lawn mower, etc. are always popular. Use your imagination. Nothing will be turned away.
● Gift Gallery Baskets: We need at least 60. Some themes are kitchen, spice, car, sports, art, tool, stationery, picnic, candle, laundry, school……just to name a few.
● Toys: These are used for game HQ prizes. They don’t need to be expensive – just something “eye catching” for a boy or girl.
● Wheelbarrow of Cheer: Always popular! We can use adult beverages, mixes and snacks.
And, finally, if you would like to donate an item or a toy or something the the prize center…but you can’t get to the store…WE WILL SHOP FOR YOU. Simply drop your desired amount in an envelope and drop it in the collection basket (or send it to the parish office) telling us what it is for; and we will do the rest.
Every year, organizing and putting on a quality festival in our parish gets harder and harder as volunteers become less and less. Please open your heart. St. Joseph Parish needs this festival – St. Joseph Parish needs you. Please come to the next Festival meeting at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28th, in the school hall. - 2011 Parish Festival Committee -
